PAYG & renewal

The phone you rarely use still needs attention.

Credit, active allowances and number retention are not necessarily the same thing.

What does a top-up do?

A cash balance and a time-limited pack can work differently. Check whether adding credit activates the intended allowance or whether another selection is required. Read the account confirmation. A person mainly receiving calls may care less about data volume than about the rules that keep the line available.

What keeps the number active?

Providers can have activity requirements, and the qualifying action matters. Do not assume that receiving a message, turning on the handset or holding credit satisfies every rule. Read the current terms for the selected product and keep a private reminder where needed. A dormant number used for account recovery can be more important than its occasional usage suggests.

How does renewal behave?

Establish whether the allowance renews from credit, a stored payment method or a manual action. Check expiry and the treatment of failed renewal. A rolling subscription is not necessarily ordinary pay-per-use credit, even if it avoids a long commitment. When travelling, confirm which resource funds excluded activity and whether any controls apply.

What happens when the line moves?

Investigate unused credit and allowance treatment before transferring away. Follow the official number-retention process if the number is important. Removing a payment method alone does not explain the account’s status. Update any recovery accounts if the number will be lost, and preserve the provider’s confirmation of the completed change.

General practical explanation; confirm plan-specific rules with the provider.
